Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite scintillators for mixed field radiation detection

Sensitive and fast detection of neutrons gamma rays is vital for homeland security, high-energy physics, proton therapy. Fast-neutron detectors rely on light organic scintillators, γ-ray use heavy inorganic scintillators semiconductors. Efficient mixed-field using a single material highly challenging due to their contradictory requirements. Here we report hybrid perovskites (C8H12N)2Pb(Br1−xClx)4 that combine cations skeletons at molecular level achieve unprecedented performance radiation detection. High neutron absorption high density hydrogen, strong radiative recombination within the confined [PbX6]4− layer, sub-nanometer distance between sites centers, enable yield 41 000 photons/MeV, pulse width 2.97 ns extraordinary linearity response toward both γ-rays, outperforming commonly used fast-neutron scintillators. Neutron energy spectrum, time-of-flight based fast-neutron/γ-ray discrimination monitoring were all successfully achieved (C8H12N)2Pb(Br0.95Cl0.05)4 detectors. We further demonstrate reaction kinetics total power nuclear fusion reaction. envision hybridized open new avenue imaging.
